British actor, Simon Pegg and Oscar winner J.K Simmons have signed up to star in the new heist comedy thriller ‘My Only Sunshine’.

The feature will be directed by Mark Palansky from a script by J.T. Petty and K. Reed Petty. No distributor is yet attached but sales for the film is expected to commence at next month’s Toronto Film Festival.

The story will revolve around a passionately dysfunctional couple who orchestrate a bank robbery as an unconventional act of bloodthirsty marriage counselling. They try to make peace with the shocking mystery of their relationship throughout the violent hostage situation, discovered by a cop hostage negotiator who previously investigated a past related crime.

Matt Smith, Lawrence Mattis are producing for Circle of Confusion and Michael Mendelsohn is producing on behalf of Patriot Pictures.

Production on the project is due to commence in the Autumn.

Pegg was last seen in Amazon series ‘The Boys’ alongside his ‘Star Trek’ colleague Karl Urban, and ‘Slaughterhouse Rulez’. His upcoming projects include ‘The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance‘ and ‘Inheritance’ alongside Lily Collins. He will also star alongside his long-term friend and filmmaker partner Nick Frost in the TV series ‘Truth Seekers’.

J.K. Simmons illustrious career spans over numerous pictures including ‘Whiplash’, ‘Justice League’ and most recently ‘Spider-man: Far From Home’ and a recurring role in the series ‘Veronica Mars’. His upcoming projects include ‘3 Days With Dad’, ’21 Bridges’ alongside Chadwick Bosman and the comedy ‘Palm Springs’ alongside Andy Samberg.
