Sherlock Holmes 2: Will Baker Street Be An Irene Adler Free Zone?

2

While I’m the first to admit that I didn’t enjoy last year’s foray into Guy Ritchie’s Baker Street, I nevertheless find myself disappointed to learn that Rachel McAdams, a rose among 128 minutes of testosterone-dripping thorns, is unsure whether her character will have a place in the upcoming sequel.

MTV is reporting that McAdams hasn’t yet been spotted on set, despite production having begun around a month ago. With lead actress responsibilities being surrendered to original Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Noomi Rapace, it is beginning to look as though McAdams’ Irene Adler has been all but replaced.

When asked whether she herself knew of the producer’s plans, she didn’t seem overly optimistic.

“It’s kind of all still in the process. They’re still doing script work, and we’ll see. If I do, it won’t be a very big thing. It’s not a lead part.”

Not that we should be too surprised by this apparent revelation; Holmes himself, Robert Downey Jnr, had previously voiced his doubts about the character’s return back in April.

“It’s hard to say. Because Irene Adler only appeared in one of the stories of Doyle’s reservoir of activities. But we’ll find out quickly.”

So will you be returning to Baker Street? Sherlock Holmes 2 is due out in December 16, 2011 with or without Rachel McAdam’s involvement.

  1. How could you not like Sherlock Holmes. I have read both the books, and seen the movie. And as much as you want to separate the two, they are very similar and very much true. I think the music created the fast paced atmosphere, and most readers thought the background should be calm and collected… It’s Sherlock, not Arthur.

  2. I wasn’t thrilled with it, either, mainly because McAdams was hardly in it. If she isn’t in Sherlock2, I’ll rent the DVD for Noomi Rapace.
