Yabba Dabba……wait, who?

That’s right folks. Family Guy Creator Seth MacFarlane is to team up with Fox and Warner Bros Television to bring that much-loved prehistoric family to the small screen again.

It’s no secret that The Flintstones was the first animated series to inspire a very young MacFarlane to pick up a pencil and draw, and now he’s been offered the chance to bring it back for a modern audience. He jokingly made this comment as to why the franchise will be welcomed back into TV screens:

“I think America is finally ready for an animated sitcom about a fat stupid guy with a wife who’s too good for him.”

MacFarlane is referencing the fact that we’ve now seen this set-up numerous times since the first incarnation of the Hanna Barbera cartoon, but it’s hard to imagine such iconic characters and personalities like Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin existing without the influence of Fred Flintstone and his modern stone-age friends and family. The only question now is will there be any conflicts between the studios and MacFarlane in delivering a un-risqué, audience-friendly reboot.

Expect to “have a gay ole’ time” when the series premieres sometime in 2013.
