So much time has passed since he played Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, it wouldn’t have been too surprising if Ryan Reynolds had decided not to reprise the role in the solo movie that’s set for 2016.

Thankfully, he will indeed return, something which many fans suspected when the actor took to his recently created Twitter account earlier tonight and shared the image you can see below. Since that hit, the trades have reported that that Reynolds and Fox are in the process of closing a deal to make it 100% official.

Deadpool is set to be released on February 12th, 2016, seven years after Reynolds first played the Merc With The Mouth to the delight of comic book fans! Tim Miller is directing (he’s best known for his visual effects work through his own Blur Films), while Zombieland duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick penned the script.

Production is expected to begin in March, so we’ll hopefully hear more about the rest of the cast soon.

There’s a chance that without Ryan Reynolds, many fans would not have embraced Deadpool, especially after some leaked test footage – which helped the movie get the green light – surfaced featuring him voicing the fan-favourite Marvel character. In a busy year for superhero movies, this could steal the show!
