According to a new report, Oscar winning director Ron Howard is attached to direct Pinocchio for Warner Bros. The movie has actually been in development for years now, and the Rush and In the Heart of the Sea director is replacing the previously attached Paul Thomas Anderson (he was set to write and direct before parting ways with the studio last Autumn).

What makes this live-action take on the classic tale particularly interesting is the fact that Avengers: Age of Ultron star Robert Downey Jr. is set to take on the role of Geppetto.

So far, Jane Goldman, Michael Mitnick, and most recently, Bryan Fuller have all worked on the screenplay. However, it’s thought that Howard will be bringing a new screenwriter in.

Specific plot details are still under wraps, but The Tracking Board states that the movie follows Geppetto as he sets out to find Pinocchio when he goes missing. This isn’t the first live-action take on Pinocchio of course, but Downey Jr.’s involvement definitely elevates this one to the next level. There’s currently no word on a release date unfortunately.

Howard will next direct Inferno, while Downey Jr. will be seen in Captain America: Civil War.
