No two ways about it: A partnership between Jay-Z and director/producing team Ron Howard and Brian Grazer is an unstoppable combination.
Jay-Z will be taking to Philadelphia this coming weekend as both headliner and curator of Made in America, a two-day music festival held over the Labor Day weekend with more than two dozen artists, including some of the biggest names across a handful of genres.
And now it’s officially been announced that Ron Howard and Brian Grazer will be filming the event, with Howard himself directing, producing through their Imagine Entertainment banner, alongside Translation’s Steve Stoute and @radical.media.
Performing alongside Jay-Z will be the likes of Pearl Jam, Skrillex, Run-D.M.C., Drake, Chris Cornell, Calvin Harris, and The Hives.
Howard says that the film won’t be a concert film, but will be,
“a reflection of the fabric of what it means to be Made in America – what the festival represents, why Jay is doing it and how he relates to each artist.”
And Grazer adds,
“The film is going to be born through Jay-Z’s perspective, how he puts the event together and creates this musical event that defies all genres… We will home in on the meaning of the festival and how Jay-Z has become a voice and icon for this generation.”
Imagine are eyeing a 2013 release, though no distribution deal is currently in place – but with Jay-Z as headliner, Howard behind the camera, and Howard and Grazer both producing, you can imagine that this is one the studios will be very interested in seeing once the festival has taken place.
If you’re heading to the festival this weekend, be sure to keep an eye out for cameras if you’d like to make your own big screen debut next year.
