There’s been some worrying chatter about big behind the scenes issues for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but that’s clearly not going to have an impact on how well the movie performs at the box office a little less than a month from now. According to early tracking data, it’s currently on course to debut in North America with upwards of $130 million.
Many analysts and tracking services believe it will go a fair bit higher (we’ll get a better idea when advance ticket sales start across the pond), but this is an amazing figure which guarantees that Rogue One will have the second biggest December debut of all-time.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens debuted with $248 million last year, but that was in a very different boat to Rogue One as it was the first Star Wars movie in a very long time and brought back some familiar faces as it continued the story which ended in Return of the Jedi.
The cast of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story includes Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Donnie Yen, Forest Whitaker, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, and a number of others, and it’s currently set to be released on December 15th (a day earlier in the UK), later this year.
