The lead actress needs to be able to carry an $80 million sci-fi film, as they’ll be the only person on screen for much of the running time, so Warner Bros. and Cuarón need to make the right choice to ensure their investment is worthwhile.

Latino Review are reporting that Gravity producers are interested in meeting with Rachel Weisz to take on the role. Though nothing has been confirmed, Weisz seems to be the frontrunner at this time, as others actresses who have already tested for the role – including everyone from Naomi Watts to Olivia Wilde – seem to have been ruled out.

It remains to be seen if an offer will be made to Weisz, but it’s certainly an interesting prospect. Weisz has the versatility that would be required for such a demanding role, as well as the respectable fan base needed to attract a wide audience. The involvement of Robert Downey Jr. as supporting actor will undoubtedly help when it comes to marketing.

Do you think Rachel Weisz could hold her own in such a demanding role? Have your say below.

  1. Rachel Weisz is one of the most talented and versatile actresses working today. She can literally do anything and she would be great in the role if offered the part. In fact, she’s a better choice than Angelina Jolie for the role and would be a much more believable hero as well.

  2. I do not like Angelina Jolie, I think she is Lara Croft in every action role that she has to play but I get a bit bored seeing Weisz, she is good but does not have a spetial light

  3. Love Rachel Weisz, not only does she have the special light and then some, she’s one of the few actors out here who can actually act.

  4. rachel weisz could play opposite george clooney as his wife in this movie robert downey jr is a best choice as her husband but he stepped out both r 5 yrs older than her.
robert downey jrs son could play her child and he could play her husband

  5. she could play a movie like blind side as sandrabullock played when i saw blind side i thought why dint they take rachel instead of sandra

  6. I’m with Loves. I think Weisz is talented and versatile and would be great. But I fear WB will just say, “she’s not as big a name as Jolie” and either cut the budget or give up on the project. I hope to be proved wrong.

  7. she is talented but I guess you forget quickly who she is or what she did, wrong or right you can remember every Jolie’s movie
