guy pearce in Lock-outI have to admit that this one came out of nowhere for me, and having watched the very enjoyable trailer the premise of Lock-Out still seems a little out there.

Luc Besson is in place as the film’s Executive Producer and we have James Mather and Stephen St. Leger sharing the writing and directing duties. previously the pair collaborated on a 2004 short called Prey Alone.

Here is what’s in store:

A man wrongly convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage against the U.S. is offered his freedom if he can rescue the president’s daughter from an outer space prison taken over by violent inmates.

Guy Pearce, Peter Stormare and Maggie Grace head up this and ComingSoon had the trailer for all to see.

There are a few influences felt here with Zoic’s work on Joss Whedon’s Serenity leaping to mind as the space battles are teased here, likewise I was reminded of Besson’s own The Fifth Element and, to a lesser extent, Starship Troopers but there’s a decent pay off to the po-faced interrogation which features heavily here.

Oh, and Parental advisory here – there’s a sexual swear word at the end, but it’s part of a decent joke so let that sway you one way or the other.
