As one of few new characters to feature in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – comic book fans are excited to see how Mantis fits into the equation. Pom Klementieff is tasked with embodying the role, though admits she focused purely on what was in the screenplay, rather than get too stuck into the comic book versions of the role – of which are there many.

“I tried at first, I did some research and read so many different things about her, really dark and twisted and sometimes sexual things, really weird stuff,” she said. “It’s not like a novel with one writer who wrote about her, there are so many writers, she appeared in the 60s up until now, so she’s had so many different lives it doesn’t make sense, its all over the place. And the way she looks, it’s really confusing, so I decided to stick to James Gunn’s version. I asked him actually, I said I wanted to read everything but I’m not sure because what I read in the script is really different, and he said I didn’t need to. I think his vision is more interesting than what I read to honest.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Klementieff also discussed with us the difficulties in trying not to laugh when around Dave Bautista’s Drax, and how incredible a visual experience the film offers fans. Finally she speaks about what the future may hold for Mantis, and how much we learn about her as the franchise progresses.
