You may remember in October lat year, Pinewood Studios were in the news for their Pinewood Studios expansion project being rejected by South Buckinghamshire District Council. The project would see 110 acres of land turned into new sets which would have included re-creations of San Francisco, New York’s Tribeca neighborhood, New Orleans, Venice’s Canale Grande, Berlin and Montmartre in Paris and 1400 homes. The project also boasts the creation of 630 new job (rising to 930) production cost saving and and a 45% reduction of carbon emissions. The rejection was a big blow to the UK’s largest studio which has most recently shot huge films which include Kick-Ass, Robin Hood, Clash of the Titans, Moon, Quantum of Solace and The Dark Knight.

This morning, Pinewood have issued a press release and an appeal to South Buckinghamshire District Council which you can see here.

Speaking about the appeal submission, Andrew M. Smith, Group Director Corporate Affairs for Pinewood commented:

“Project Pinewood is just as important as ever to the UK. Locally, unemployment in South Bucks rose by approximately 57% in 2009. It is also essential for the UK’s creative industries. Recent estimates have shown that the creative industries account for 6.2% of Gross Value Added in the UK, underlining the importance of the sector to the UK economy.”

I guess we’ll now have to see what this appeal bring but just so you know, the news about Pinewood Studios moving to the Midlands is a load of rubbish.
