Netflix is adding another intriguing piece to its Mystery Inc. puzzle, with Paul Walter Hauser officially joining the upcoming live-action ‘Scooby-Doo’ series in a series regular role.
Details surrounding Hauser’s character remain tightly under wraps, but his casting signals that the show is leaning into a layered, character-driven mystery to accompany its supernatural thrills.
The untitled series is described as a modern reimagining of the beloved Scooby-Doo franchise, bringing a darker, more serialised edge to the iconic sleuthing gang.
Hauser joins a previously announced ensemble cast portraying the young Mystery Inc. crew:
-
Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones
-
Tanner Hagen as Norville “Shaggy” Rogers
-
Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley
-
Mckenna Grace as Daphne Blake

According to the official logline, the series will centre on the gang’s formative years, setting the stage for how their lifelong bond—and mystery-solving legacy—began:
During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get drawn into a chilling mystery involving a lonely, lost Great Dane puppy—one that may have witnessed a supernatural murder.
As the mystery deepens, they’re joined by Velma, a pragmatic and scientifically minded local, and Freddy, a charismatic newcomer. Together, the group begins to unravel a case that pulls them into a creeping nightmare—one that threatens to expose their darkest secrets.
The project comes from seasoned television storytellers Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, who serve as writers, showrunners, and executive producers. They are joined by executive producers André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Adrienne Erickson under the Midnight Radio banner.
Additional executive producers include Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman via Berlanti Productions.
Directing duties for the first episode will be handled by Toby Haynes. The series is produced by Warner Bros. Television.
