It’s been half a decade since we last saw del Toro’s work in cinemas, and we’re naturally very eager to see what he has for us next.
The latest trailer landed at the start of the year, promising mammoth-sized action this July. And now a series of posters have recently debuted, giving us a look at some of the international technology designed to combat the global threat posed by the Kaiju in the film.
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes–a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)–who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Idris Elba, Charlie Day, and Ron Perlman take the lead, making up an awesome cast.
Del Toro is directing from a script by Travis Beacham (Clash of the Titans). And with the studio already announcing their intentions for a Pacific Rim sequel, the summer blockbuster is pretty much guaranteed to be an awesome franchise-starter for Warner Bros. and Legendary.
Pacific Rim will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on 12th July, and we can’t wait for it to hit. Here are the latest posters, to give you an idea of the scale and power of these Jaeger that will be hitting hard in the height of the summer.
