The 98th Academy Award nominations were unveiled on Thursday, January 22, 2026, spotlighting this year’s most acclaimed films, performances, and creative achievements in cinema. The nominations — announced in a live presentation at the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre by actors Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman — kick off the final stretch toward the Oscars ceremony on March 15, 2026, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

Ryan Coogler’s genre-hybrid phenomenon ‘Sinners’ made Academy Awards history by earning 16 nominations — the most ever for a single film. This surpasses the long-standing record of 14 set by classics such as ‘Titanic’ and ‘La La Land.’ The film scored nods across major categories, including Best Picture, Best Director (Coogler) and Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan, marking his first Oscar nomination.

Trailing closely behind ‘Sinners’ is Paul Thomas Anderson’s ambitious ‘One Battle After Another’ with 13 nominations, including multiple acting and directing nods.

Irish actress Jessie Buckley garnered a Best Actress nomination for ‘Hamnet,’ with buzz that she could become the first Irish performer to win in the category.

The Oscars nomination slate for 2026 includes 24 competitive categories, with five nominees in each category except for Best Picture, which features ten.
