Blue Finch Films has released the official trailer for ‘OH, CANADA,’ the powerful new drama from legendary filmmaker Paul Schrader (Hardcore, American Gigolo, First Reformed). Adapting Russell Banks’ celebrated novel ‘Foregone,’ the film promises an unflinching reckoning with truth, legacy, and the lies we tell ourselves.

Set against the backdrop of 1960s America — a nation splintered by war, politics, and cultural upheaval — ‘OH, CANADA’ centres on Leonard Fife (Richard Gere), an acclaimed documentary director determined to share his life story before time runs out. Famed for his revelatory social exposés, Fife appears to embody integrity, courage, and cultural impact. Yet beneath his mythic public persona lies a life riddled with half-truths, romantic betrayals, and a long-romanticised narrative about dodging the Vietnam War draft.

When Leonard sits down for a filmed interview — camera rolling, ego fading, mortality looming — his carefully constructed legend begins to crack. With his devoted wife Emma (Uma Thurman) by his side, the interrogative lens shifts inward. As Leonard’s erratic memories and self-mythologising take hold, we also see a younger Leonard (Jacob Elordi), reliving the tangled emotional and political decisions that shaped him — and the stories he later weaponised into immortality.

The cast is bolstered further by Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos, White Lotus).
