The official trailer and poster for ‘Odyssey,’ the highly anticipated new film from acclaimed British writer-director Gerard Johnson (Hyena, Muscle), has arrived — and it’s every bit as stylish, gritty, and darkly hilarious as fans of his previous work might expect.

Led by a ferocious, career-defining performance from Muscle’s Polly Maberly, the film made its explosive World Premiere earlier this year at SXSW, and is gearing up for its UK debut at the Edinburgh International Film Festival and a high-profile London premiere at FrightFest later this month, ahead of a nationwide theatrical release.

Maberly stars as Natasha Flynn, a coke-fuelled London estate agent whose high-end façade is crumbling under the weight of addiction, debt, and desperation. When a pair of shady loan sharks offer her quick cash to stash a kidnapped rival agent, Natasha dives headfirst into a nightmare journey through the capital’s seediest corners — one laced with menace, mayhem, and twisted humour. What begins as a fast fix spirals into an all-out, blood-soaked descent toward reckoning.

Joining Maberly is an impressive international cast, including Mikael Persbrandt (Sex Education, The Salvation, The Hobbit), Guy Burnet (Oppenheimer, Ray Donovan), Jasmine Blackborow (The Gentlemen, Marie Antoinette), Daniel De Bourg (MobLand, Fountain of Youth), and Gerard Johnson regular Peter Ferdinando (Ghost in the Shell, High-Rise).

Visually slick yet steeped in grime, ‘Odyssey’ is elevated by a pulsating original score from post-punk icons THE THE — their first new film soundtrack since 2019’s Muscle — underscoring the film’s mounting tension with industrial swagger and melodic unease.

Johnson once again proves himself one of the UK’s most distinctive filmmaking voices, blending noir-infused thrills with biting satire, visceral violence, and deeply human character studies. The trailer teases a feral mix of Danny Boyle chaos and Killing Eve-esque black comedy — a powder keg of a film, ready to blow.

The movie screens at EIFF on the 15th of August and FrightFest on the 25th of August, before hitting the Icon Channel from the 6th of October. It hits UK cinemas on November 7th.
