New UK Poster for Wuthering Heights

1

I have to admit, I know absolutely nothing about Wuthering Heights! This new film version is another in a very long line of adaptations of the novel which,  from this new poster, I can tell you is based on the novel by Emily Bronte directed by Andrea Arnold who Directed Fish Tank and Red Road. The film stars Kaya Scodelario, Nichola Burley and James Howson. It’s set for release in the UK 11th November and if you missed the trailer for the movie, you can catch it here.

A poor young English boy named Heathcliff is taken in by the wealthy Earnshaw family where he develops an intense relationship with his young foster sister, Cathy. Based on the classic novel by Emily Bronte.

  1. IMHO, the “love is a force of nature” poster is misleading. Love may be a theme in WH but it is not the primary idea. Obsession and Revenge are the subjects of Emily’s masterpiece. But, of course, you will not get the revenge half of the book because Ms Arnold has chosen to ignore it, as has most of the Hollywood productions. I don’t think Heathcliff is capable of love. He is a primordial creature who seems to have been created out of  the Liverpool ooze. His primitive nature may have been formed even before his arrival at WH. And not even the caresses of the self-destructive Cathy were enough to domesticate him. Oh, you can blame Hindley for all of Heathcliff’s ills but that doesn;t define Heathcliff. It goes much deeper than that.
