José Padilha’s RoboCop has officially started filming, and is set to be one of the biggest action blockbusters of the year.

Starring Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) as the lead, Alex Murphy / RoboCop, we’ve got the first photos from the set to share, along with a new look at a teaser poster, coming our way via ComingSoon.net and Cine1.

“In RoboCop, the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology.  Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front.  Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit.  After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life.  He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.”

Starring alongside Kinnaman will be Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, Jay Baruchel, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jennifer Ehle, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.

We got our first viral clips from the film, before production began, back in July, and now this new teaser poster also incorporates the same slogan seen in the first teaser (also included below, in the bottom-right), as well as the viral clips, and is likely to be the main one used across promotion in the coming months.

RoboCop is set for release on 9th August, 2013 in the UK and US, and will be one of the bigger blockbusters coming our way next summer. We’ve got a slew of big-budgeted films due next year, and so we should be in for some significant campaigns kicking off over the next few months.
