The-Strain

Based on a trilogy of novels (which were later turned into a Dark Horse comic book series) from Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro and author Chuck Hogan, a small screen adaptation of The Strain is set to debut on FX this July. The first season will consist of 13 episodes, and Del toro will direct and co-write the pilot alongside Hogan. Former Lost co-showrunner Carlton Cuse is set to run the series and executive produce.

The teasers are all pretty cryptic, but the new images give us a look at many of the characters who will appear in the series (including House of Cards alum Corey Stoll and The Lord of the Rings’ Sean Astin).

We’re yet to see the vampires from this small screen adaptation, and whether they will resemble their comic book counterparts – seen above – remains to be seen. Either way, The Strain is one 0f the summer’s most highly anticipated new shows and a full-length trailer surely can’t be to far away at this point.

The Strain is a high concept thriller from Academy Award® nominated Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, author Chuck Hogan and writer/producer Carlton Cuse, which is based on the best-selling vampire novel trilogy of the same title written by del Toro and Hogan. It tells the story of “Dr. Ephraim Goodweather,” the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself.

Starring Corey Stoll, John Hurt, Kevin Durand, Mia Maestro, Sean Astin and Doug Jones, The Strain will debut on FX in July. A UK air date has not yet been announced.
