X-Men Banner

The latest X-Men: Days of Future Past themed cover for Entertainment Weekly features Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), while a new behind-the-scenes preview of the “inbetweenquel” offers up some very interesting new footage.

However, in their brief report, EW reveals that the reason that Wolverine travels back in time is to stop Mystique from assassinating Bolivar Trask, as it is this action which apparently leads her down the path we find her on in the original X-Men trilogy of movies.

If he can stop her, and unite the young Professor X and Magneto, a new timeline would be created which wipes out the previous X-Men adventures and avoids the cataclysmic future we’ve caught a glimpse of where most of Earth has been devastated by the Sentinels in their quest to wipe out all mutants.

Assuming that Wolverine succeeds, this allows Singer to revisit many fan favourite characters from X-Men, X-2 and X-Men: The Last Stand in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse without worrying about linking them up to where we saw them in any of those movies. It’s a reboot basically, but a lot more complicated!

What do you guys think? For now, here’s the featurette and magazine cover…
