New Judge Dredd Movie Set Pic Shows Lawmaster

13

Seems to be first look Friday today as we’ve already seen Ian McShane as Blackbeard in the next Pirates of the Caribbean film, then we saw the first clear look at Marc Webb’s rebooted Spider-Man and now we’ve got a picture of one of Mega-City One’s finest in full uniform, on a lawmaster.

Pete Travis is directing Karl Urban, Lena Headey and Olivia Thirlby in Dredd, and we’ve seen a few shots from the set already, as well as a nice image of Urban as the man himself, and this new picture is ripe and ready to be poured over by Dreddnaughts*.

Quite right for 2000AD (via io9) to get the first full look at the Judge’s uniform and lawmaster bike, looks the right side of eroded futurism, without the unnecessary retro pandering – good to see, and yes, I have no idea what that means – just sounds right.

Now, trailer please…

*no idea if that’s the official collective term, please feel free to enlighten me if you know I’m wrong.

  1. Again they seem to feel the need to mess with the iconic images from the comic that would be great in movie form and make them cheap looking!

  2. The body of the bike lacks a lot of detail. Ironically, by adding more to the front of the bike it makes the overall look of the bike less detailed.

I’m no expert on bike design but aren’t all bikes meant to have the handlebars at the front? I believe so. This lawmaster has the handlebars in the middle! That’s just weird. The 2000AD Dredd lawmaster has the handlebars at the front (Dredd’s first appearance in Prog 2):

as is the case with all bikes:

Having the bars in the middle of the bike doesn’t make any sense. Oh well, I guess if you’re going to change things, do them in a wacky way. 😛

  3. Nah!
That looks mince to me.The Stallone movie ones were’nt too bad but this just looks awful.
It looks too much like a contemporary street bike with a load of bits ‘n’ bobs stuck on.
Still!Eatly days yet but this gets the thumbs down from me I’m afraid.Wonder why nobody has built the bike the way it is in the comics??I am certainly no expert when it comes to bikes but with what they can do with CGI these days I would have thought the Beast of the Streets would have been childsplay.

Roll on the movie when it comes out!

  4. Uniform looks clunky, bike looks dumb. They’re gonna screw the pooch again.Oh well suppose i’ll look forward to the third attempt in another ten years.

  5. That bikes just Laughable, the position of the riders all wrong , the uniforms just terrible too, It could be the best film in the world but If the designs this bad I might not bother with it…

  6. Looks nothing like a Lawmaster. Looks more like one of those BMX’s from the 80’s that made sound effects, you know, the Raleigh Vektar

  7. Why can’t they just build a faithful recreation of the Lawmaster bike from the comics?,That bike in the pic looks like something a hobbyist built in a couple of weeks.Seriously,If it’s supposed to be the warhorse of the most advanced justice system of the future or whatever, why would the Judges roll around on something that looks like it just fell out of the Orange County reject tip?
Many artists spent decades redefining and refining Carlos Ezquerra’s origional lawmaster,Bolland,Higgins,Gibson et al.It doesn’t need a redesign,it just needs to be built.Batman’s bike was way better. Not sure I like the uniform, but it is practical looking, and the helmet is faithful.but the bike definitely rankles.Ho hum, well at least Carl Urban should be able to elucidate his words, let’s hope he doesn’t do a Christian Bale on it.But he probably will.
    Laaaggggh!!!

  8. That bike looks fking terrible , I seriously hope it was an early production test idea or something ,for the love of drokk I hope they dont use it.

  10. I’m not a fan of the bike at all! Why didn’t they do something similar to the badpod bike in The Dark Knight, but make it more like the Lawmaster. I think that Stallone was a great Dredd and if he hadn’t been panned for the last one he still could have been, but Karl Urban could be an inspired choice. I still think that the bike is very cheap looking for a big budget effort, but let’s hope that the story holds up and the acting and directing is good!

  11. at this rate stallones dredd will be better, something i never thought i’d say or could imagine.oh well back to reading 2000 ad again.why cant they get it right?open a copy of 2000ad and copy the f**king artwork! dredd never rode a jetski as far as i can remember.who ever is in charge of this movie should change the bike now!at least the suit and helmet are ok.
