Tom Hooper’s Les Misérables remains one of the most anticipated films of the year, with an all-star cast led by Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, and Amanda Seyfried.

The big-screen musical adaptation is set to reinvigorate the musical genre, with every note sung live on the set rather than beforehand in studios, and that is a prospect that is definitely something to look forward to.

The film’s release is very much on the horizon, and now a new Japanese poster has made its way online, with the leading quartet front and centre atop a rather epic scene.

“Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption—a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.”

Eddie Redmayne, Samantha Barks, Sacha Baron Cohen, Isabelle Allen, and Helena Bonham Carter complete the terrific cast, with Hooper directing from a script by William Nicholson (Gladiator, Shadowlands), who adapts the original classic novel of the same name by Victor Hugo and the world-famous stage musical.

Les Misérables will be released on Christmas Day in the US, before coming to the UK slightly later on 11th January, which will be the perfect start to the New Year. And as you can see below, Japan will be getting it before either of us, with a limited release set for 21st December. For now, here’s the beautiful new international poster.
