The Sweeney posterRay Winstone and Ben Drew (a.k.a. Plan B) take the lead in the upcoming remake of The Sweeney, and following a new trailer for the action/crime drama last month, we’ve got a new clip to share, featuring a classic one-liner deliverance from Winstone (and also a four-letter word, so you’re advised not to watch this at work).

Nick Love (The Football Factory) is behind the camera, with Hayley Atwell (Captain America) and Damian Lewis (Homeland) completing the support very nicely.

“Based on the original ITV cult classic TV show, THE SWEENEY will be a modernization of the London Flying Squad, directed by Nick Love (THE FOOTBALL FACTORY, THE FIRM) and co-written by Bafta Winner John Hodge (TRAINSPOTTING).

Set in present day England, THE SWEENEY will be packed full of fast cars, action and wise cracks as it follows Flying Squad detectives Jack Regan, (originally played John Thaw,) George Carter (original played by Dennis Waterman) and their team, as they work to keep the bad guys down!”

Love is directing from a script by the Oscar-nominated, BAFTA-winning Nick Love (Trainspotting, The Beach), based on the original TV programme of the same name.

The Sweeney will be released in the UK and Ireland on 12th September, and as yet, there’s still no word if it will be heading to the US. Australia and New Zealand are due to get the film this November and next January, respectively, so keep your fingers crossed for a North American release if you’re reading this across the Atlantic. One last reminder, it sounds like Winstone swears about half-way through, so it’s not a clip suitable for work.
