To learn more about the evolution of this quirky British gem we sat down earlier this week with its star Rhys Ifans, director Bernard Rose and Mr Howard Marks himself!
Bernard Rose is the talented writer/director behind films as diverse as Candyman and Immortal Beloved. We spoke to him about the appeal of the Howard Marks story, any 20th anniversary plans for a Candyman revival, the challenges of managing a mischievous Welsh duo onset and the unique charms of David Thewlis.
Our conversation with Howard and Rhys was a little more surreal. We discovered how to become a luvvie when you’re Welsh, why Mr Marks might soon be returning to a life of underworld crime and that the only sensible thing to do after playing Mr. Nice is to cast your eyes heavenward…
Rhys Ifans and Howard Marks were an irresistible double-act and it was plain to see that the two are great mates. We did manage to get a word in among the banter about a certain Mr Potter and can heartily encourage you to see Mr. Nice when it opens here on Friday.
