After losing showrunner Bryan Fuller, many fans started worrying about Star Trek: Discovery. After all, that’s a pretty big loss, but prepare to get excited all over again by the news that Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon star Michelle Yeoh has now joined the cast of the series.

While it hasn’t been confirmed as of yet, it’s likely that the actress is playing the show’s female lead, a Lieutenant Commander. Yeoh was recently seen in Crouching Tiger sequel Sword of Destiny and also starred in Netflix’s Marco Polo. This is an impressive addition to Star Trek: Discovery, and we’ll hopefully get more casting news sooner rather than later.

In the US, the show will be aired on CBS Seed, but everywhere else will get it on Netflix.

Just like Better Call Saul reaches the online streaming service in the UK less than 24 hours after it airs on AMC (and how Preacher is shown on Amazon Prime), the same will apply to the still quite mysterious Star Trek series. That’s good news for those worried about spoilers or the prospect waiting months until it finds a channel willing to air it on this side of the pond.

Star Trek: Discovery will not be set in the same timeline as the rebooted movies, and it will feature brand new characters, locations, and ships. Expect more details to be revealed soon.
