Well, this is awesome news. Variety has revealed this evening that one-time Batman Michael Keaton is in talks to join the cast of the recently titled Spider-Man: Homecoming as a villain.
There’s no word on who he might be playing, though it was only yesterday that a rumour started doing the rounds that The Vulture will be making an appearance in this reboot. Keaton would definitely be a good fit for that role as he’s in his 60s (not that you would know it by looking at him) and Adrian Toomes has typically been portrayed as that age or above.
If the deal makes, he joins a cast which so far includes Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, and Zendaya in an undisclosed role. Tom Watts (Cop Car) is directing a script by Vacations John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, and the movie is currently set to be released on July 7th, 2017. The cast is so far shaping up very nicely.
Keaton is coming off the back of critically acclaimed appearances in movies like Birdman and Spotlight, so bringing him on board for Spider-Man: Homecoming is a major win for Marvel and Sony. Hopefully we’ll get details on his role in the not too distant future anyway.
He will certainly bring an added dimension to any role he gets
This is welcoming news considering Beetlejuice 2 isn’t happening. When given the freedom he can create some eccentric characters and this could bring some much needed energy to the series
