Pictures have officially hired screenwriter Michael Goldenberg to pen the screenplay for Green Lantern 2.

Despite the first instalment, Green Lantern, not being released until next year, it seems Warner Bros. Pictures have now committed themselves to a franchise.

Michael Goldenberg co-wrote the Green Lantern screenplay alongside Michael Green, Marc Guggenheim and Greg Berlanti; having also penned Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Peter Pan and Contact.

Green Lantern, directed by Martin Campbell, will be released on June 17, 2010. The film, which has just wrapped filming, stars Ryan Reynolds as a member of an intergalactic squadron tasked with keeping peace within the universe.

Green Lantern has been adapted from a DC comic-book series, created by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell.
