Good news for fans of all things Jason Bourne as Producer Frank Marshall has confirmed that both Producer / Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass will return for a sequel to the summer blockbuster although after a no-doubt well earned break.

Both Damon and Greengrass had no involvement in the 2012 spin-off film but after fan pressure and a good script landed on their desk, they were unable to resist returning to the fantastic franchise.

During an interview with our friends over at Yahoo UK, the veteran producer was asked about both sequels to Jason Bourne and the spin-off movie The Bourne Legacy which saw Jeremy Renner in the lead role as Aaron Cross.

On the Jason Bourne sequel and on Damon & Greengrass he said:

“I have spoken to them both. Obviously they’re very pleased with how the movie turned out. It’s really about the story, just like on this one, everyone said ‘if you come to us with a good story, we’ll think about it.’

So right now, we’re taking a pause and then we’re going to dive back in and try to find a story. We did leave it wide open at the end of the movie to continue on in Bourne’s world so we’ll see what we can come up with.”

And when asked about whether or we’ll see a Bourne Legacy follow-up:

“Probably not. I don’t know. That story is still out there as well but it’s not… we’re not talking about it.”

This follows the interview that CinemaBlend conducted with Marshall where he talked about the two worlds colliding. When asked about whether or not Jason Bourne and Aaron Cross could ever meet, he said:

“No, not really. I think they are separate characters, and I don’t think we’re ever going to see them together.”

So that puts that one to bed….. until of course the stories dry up and someone thinks of an awesome way for the two spies to star in a cross-over movie. For now though we’ll have to wait for the fifth Jason Bourne movie and can, until then speculate on what we think it might be called.
