X-Men: Days of Future Past is 2014’s most successful comic book movie with over $700 million at the worldwide box office, and with Deadpool set for a 2016 release and talk of an X-Men spin-off featuring X-Force, 20th Century Fox are on track to creating their own cinematic universe to rival that of Marvel Studios.

According to a new report, the studio are now developing a live-action TV series featuring X-Men characters, and as they own a very successful television network (which airs the likes of 24 and Gotham), bringing these characters to the small screen makes perfect sense. In fact, we pointed out exactly that in a recent feature looking at 10 superheroes who would be perfectly suited to TV. You can find that by clicking here.

Details are scarce at the moment, but there’s some talk of it focusing on X-Factor, a team of mutant private investigators. If this series does indeed come to fruition, the X-Men would join the likes of Arrow, The Flash, The Walking Dead and other upcoming shows like Agent Carter, Daredevil, Supergirl and Teen Titans.

Fox’s relationship with Marvel isn’t particularly good. In fact, there has been talk recently of the latter’s plans to cancel the Fantastic Four’s comic book next year in a bid to hurt Josh Trank’s movie. Sony on the other hand – the studio which holds the rights to Spider-Man – get on with them much better.

That could be because Marvel hold the merchandising rights to the character, but regardless, there’s now talk of the two studios looking to reach a deal which will see Spider-Man added to The Avengers.

If a deal could be reached, this would greatly benefit both Marvel Studios and Sony, especially after both the tepid critical response to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and its disappointing box office performance. It’s still early days, but plans are apparently being discussed, so we could hear something official soon.
