Following on from her stand-out performance in ‘A Star is Born’, Stefani Germanotta aka Lady Gaga has joined Ridley Scott’s ‘Gucci’ pic which focuses on the murder of the grandson of the founder of the Fashion dynasty’s Guccio Gucci.

Gaga will play the role of Patrizia Reggiani, the ex-wife of Maurizio Gucci, who was tried and convicted of orchestrating her ex-husband’s assassination on the steps of his office in 1995.

Based on the Sara Gay Forden book ‘The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed’, the film will be directed By Scott from a screenplay from Roberto Bentivegna. Scott will also produce alongside Giannina Scott and Scott Free Productions.

The book is centred around the rise of a family business that denigrated into squabbles over control of the business and greed, at a time when Gucci was being corporatized, and the brand’s relevance restored by CEO Domenico De Sole and creative director Tom Ford.

Originally sentenced to 29 years for the murder of Maurizio Gucci, Reggiani bore Maurizio two daughters. Reggiani is thought to have been spurred into the action of getting rid of him when he left her for another woman. The media painted her as a scorned woman and dubbed her Black Widow. Her daughters came to her defence citing that she had had a brain tumour removed and it was this that caused her to seek vengeance.

Scott will helm ‘The Last Duel’ before commencing on the project.
