A new trailer has surfaced for the Superman prequel series, Krypton which opens the storyline of what we can come to expect from the home planet of our caped superhero before it was destroyed.

Based on DC Comics characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, Krypton is set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet. It follows Superman’s grandfather — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honour and save his beloved world from chaos.

With the House of El in turmoil, it’s down to  Seg-El, Kal-El’s grandfather (played by Cameron Cuffe) to help restore the family name. The show will also incorporate a time-travel element when cosmic DC hero Adam Strange is sent from the future to help save the doomed planet.

Show creator and executive producer, David S. Goyer hinted that due to the time-travel that our perception of Superman’s backstory could show some differences in what we thought.

“You can tell [from that trailer] that time travel is involved, and what that means is history could be changed, and what happens in this show could be very different from the backstory that people know. A lot of people know that Krypton blows up and that’s what caused Superman to come to Earth, but this is really an untold story”.

Krypton debuts on Syfy March 21.
