Netflix have announced that John Wick star Keanu Reeves is to join Ali Wong and Randall Park on their new comedy, Always Be My Maybe.

The project follows two childhood sweethearts who have a falling out and don’t speak for 15 years. They reconnect as adults when Wong’s character — a celebrity chef opening a restaurant in San Francisco — runs into Park’s character, a happily struggling musician still living at home working for his dad. The old sparks are still there, but can they adapt to each other’s world? It is currently unclear which role Reeves will be playing.

Nahnatchka Khan – who has previously worked with Park and Wong on Fresh Off the Boat –  will direct from a script by Wong, Park and Michael Golamco. The production also stars Michelle Buteau, Vivian Bang, Karan Soni, Charlyne Yi, Daniel Dae Kim, James Saito, Lyrics Born and Susan Park.

Filming has already commenced in Vancouver, Canada. The project is due to land on Netflix in 2019.

Reeves will be seen in the comedy Destination Wedding where he reunites with Winona Ryder. The pair play guests at a wedding in which both of them feel very awkward. Miserable and unpleasant, both pariahs at this affair, they develop a mutual affection despite themselves. His most recent film Siberia screened at Cannes. He is also currently filming the third in the John Wick saga.
