Justice League Dark has been stuck in development hell for years now. Guillermo del Toro was attached to direct for a while before moving on to other projects, and while rumours last year pointed to shooting starting this year, we’ve heard absolutely nothing concrete since.

As a result, its current status remains a mystery, though it’s easy to imagine Warner Bros. wanting to see how their main Justice League movie does next year before greenlighting this supernatural spinoff which will reportedly revolve around, “a series of ancient tomes stolen by a madman hellbent on the destruction of humanity. When he learns of this, occult detective John Constantine seeks out a group of heroes that specialize in the mystic and arcane in order to save the world.” That sounds like a pretty cool movie, right?

Tell that to Warner Bros., because they’ve never appeared to be interested in making it, a shame considering the fact the team is made up of some truly great DC Comics characters.

Well, a BBFC listing for special features on the upcoming DVD and Blu-ray release of Batman: The Killing Joke has revealed that Justice League Dark is now going to be an animated feature. This obviously won’t be the live-action movie as a cartoon, but chances are Warner Bros. are releasing this as a way of gauging interest in the property from fans.

It’s a smart approach, and should it sell well enough, that movie might finally start gaining some traction. For now, you can find out in-depth guide to Justice League Dark right here.
