It’s been over a decade since we last ventured into the world of Jurassic Park, and now Universal has officially confirmed that the fourth instalment in the franchise will be titled Jurassic World, and they’ve set the release date for Summer 2015.

Colin Trevorrow came on board earlier this year in a surprising, but hugely welcome, move, having made his debut with Sundance-favourite Safety Not Guaranteed last year.

The project was put on hold soon after he came on board, to get all in order, with Trevorrow stating that he needed to make a case for why there needed to be a sequel in the first place. Clearly, he’s not taking the job lightly, and it sounds like he’s doing everything he can to ensure he lives up to (and exceeds) the expectations inevitably attached to such a big franchise.

Trevorrow will be directing from a script he’s co-written with his Safety writer, Derek Connolly, with whom Trevorrow has also been working on Intelligent Life and their upcoming Flight of the Navigator remake.

Steven Spielberg, who of course helmed the original 1993 film and its 1997 sequel, will be back on board as a producer this time around, with Frank Marshall (Indiana Jones, War Horse), Patrick Crowley (The Bourne Quadrilogy), and Thomas Tull (The Dark Knight, Inception) producing alongside him.

For a while now, 2015 has quickly been growing to become one of the most impressive years for blockbuster cinema in recent memory, and Summer 2015 in particular will be a massive season for the industry. Marvel will be opening Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man in May and July, Warner Bros. will release their upcoming Man of Steel sequel / Batman vs. Superman movie, Universal also have Ted 2 on their slate for April, Sony have Bond 24 on their slate towards the end of the year, Paramount have Terminator, and that’s all just skimming the surface.

Jurassic World is now officially set for release in 3D on June 12th, 2015. As things currently stand, it will be opening unopposed, with Assassin’s Creed and Pixar’s Inside Out both set to open the following weekend.
