Fans of Marvel have been eagerly awaiting The Punisher, the new Marvel TV series brought to us by Netflix and based on the antics of comic book vigilante Steve Castle.  He acquired the name ‘The Punisher’ after turning to a life of violence and revenge following the brutal murder of his wife.  If you take away the gun scenes, brutal fights and exploding heads, what’s left is a story about a man who has lost everything, fallen through a crack in society and is left tormented by his past.

We were lucky enough to talk with the writer Steve Lightfoot and actor Jon Bernthal in Paris, and you can see that interview below.

Jon Bernthal’s portrayal of ‘The Punisher’ initially featured in Marvel’s Daredevil TV series, although this time we have more of an insight into his military background.  The actor spoke of the specialist training he went through for the part.  Whilst writer Steve Lightfoot talked about his approach towards creating a fresh story for Steve Castle, although emphasising that the character is still the same as in Daredevil.  Steve wrote the highly acclaimed series Hannibal, so I thought it was fit to ask who would win in a fight to the death, Steve Castle or Hannibal?

We delved into whether they perceived ‘The Punisher’ as a hero, and Jon gave his thoughts on why he believes in staying in character on set.

The Punisher arrives on Netflix on the 17th of November.
