This is one sequel we’re really looking forward to. John Wick Chapter 2 reopens the book on the one of the surprisingly entertaining action films in years. The unashamedly violent first film was directed by Chad Stahelski and David Leitch and placed Keanu Reeves in the vanguard of ‘the older assassin’ archetype so popular in recent years.

Stahelski returns to direct the second instalment alone, while Leitch has recently signed up for the director’s chair of Deadpool 2. Though the two franchises are very different in tone (a John Wick vs. Deadpool crossover film would be a genuine treat), Leitch’s work thus far stands him in good stead for the ribald Ryan Reynolds vehicle.

John Wick Chapter 2 Movie Poster

Fronting the new film is the man himself – Keanu Reeves – looking as stoic and deadly as ever. The film picks up after the events of the first, hooking its story on the familiar ‘forced out of retirement’ trope. There is another group of assassins, former friends and hitman associates in the mix only this time he’s taking his particular set of skills abroad – to Rome.

John Wick Symphony of Violence Supercut

Bridget Moynahan, John Leguizamo, Lance Reddick, and Ian McShane are all back the first film, joined by newcomers Common, Ruby Rose, Peter Stormare, and one Laurence Fishburne. Rumours that is all part of a prequel to The Matrix films start here…

John Wick Chapter 2 is released in US cinemas on the 10th of February with UK cinemas getting it a week later on the 17th of February.
