The Hunger Games finale may not be the last time director Francis Lawrence and Academy Award winning actress Jennifer Lawrence team up, as it’s being reported today that they are in talks to reunite for The Dive.

The romantic drama is being produced by James Cameron for Twentieth Century Fox, and the Avatar director will be joined by his Lightstorm Entertainment partners Jon Landau and Rae Sanchini as well as Barry Josephson. The latter is longtime diving expert who has been developing the project for over a decade.

If The Dive sounds at all familiar, it’s more than likely because both Cameron and Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) have been attached to bring it to the big screen at one point or another over the past few years.

Dive is based on the true love story of Cuban diver Francisco ‘Pipin’ Ferreras and the French-born diver Audrey Mestre. Under his guidance and training, Mestre became a freediver who broke several world records. However, Mestre tragically died while attempting a breath-hold dive over 500 feet. She was only 28.

J. Michael Straczynski wrote the latest draft of the script which was originally penned by Laeta Kalogridis.

This would be an interesting role for Lawrence, and it’s not hard to imagine her reuniting with the man who she’s worked with for the majority of The Hunger Games franchise. Stay tuned to HeyUGuys for updates.
