Call Me By Your Names’ Luca Guadagnino may still be on cloud nine after the rave reception his latest romantic outing has received, including three Golden Globe nominations. However, life goes on and he is already prepping for his next venture, Burial Rites, by bringing on board Jennifer Lawrence.

The true crime drama will see Guadagnino directing and Lawrence star as well as produce the TriStar pictures feature which is based on Hannah Kent’s novel.  The story focuses on Agnes Magnusdottir, too be played by Lawrence, the last woman to be publicly executed in Iceland in 1830. Agnes was sentenced to death for killing two men and setting fire to their home. The story takes place as Agnes awaits confirmation of her death sentence by the high court, a period of time that finds her reluctantly forging emotional and romantic bonds while reflecting on her supposed crimes.

Allison Shearmur and Justine Ciarrocchi will produce with Lawrence.

TriStar Pictures President, Hannah Minghella said “Luca is a rare talent. His movies capture an exquisite sense of place inextricably linked to the emotional state of the complex characters he creates,” Minghella said in a statement. “I can’t imagine a more thrilling partnership than Luca and Jennifer coming together to bring Agnes’ beautiful and tragic story to life.”

Guadagnino currently has the horror remake Suspiria and the thriller Rio, which will star Benedict Cumberbatch and Jake Gyllenhaal on his schedule.

Lawrence has reprised her role as Mystique in the forthcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix and will also be seen in crime thriller Red Sparrow alongside Joel Edgerton, Matthias Schoenaerts, Jeremy Irons and Joely Richardson.
