With only a day since the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story in cinemas, It has been revealed that a Boba Fett movie is in the works. It has also been revealed that Logan director James Mangold will be taking the helm, writing and directing the film about the notorious fan favourite bounty hunter.

Lucasfilm are yet to make any official confirmation on the news, but it is said that Mangold will co-write the script with Simon Kinberg. The Boba Fett movie has been on the cards since 2013. That version was said to take place either between Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back or between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, with Josh Trank was set to direct but his contract was terminated in 2016 due to his behaviour on the set of Fantastic Four.

The announcement has been met with a little scepticism on social media channels amongst fans of the franchise so far as Boba Fett isn’t such a major player, but he does have somewhat of a cult following. Some even question why they couldn’t make a Leia spin-off movie, not least to honour the memory of the Late Carrie Fisher.

Boba Fett is a bounty hunter and first made an appearance in The Empire Strikes Back. He also appears in Return of the Jedi as a minion employed by both Darth Vader and Jabba the Hutt. His origin as an unaltered clone of the bounty hunter Jango Fett comes in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, Boba’s storyline from this film is directly continued in certain episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
