J.J. Abrams successfully resurrected the Star Wars franchise with The Force Awakens last December, and while he’s currently busy promoting Star Trek Beyond (which he produced), the filmmaker has revealed that there’s a specific Anthology movie he would like to see follow Rogue One and Han Solo. However, whether or not he’d want to direct is unclear.

“I gotta say Kathy Kennedy, who’s running it all, she seems to be pushing all the right buttons,” Abrams said. “There isn’t something that I’d love to see—I guess the one thing I would say is there’s a Knights of Ren story that I think would be pretty cool to tell.”

This actually makes perfect sense for one of these spinoffs because them always focusing on characters we’re familiar with or famous events we’ve heard of (like the Death Star plans being stolen) means they run the risk of becoming a little redundant as time passes.

The Knights of Ren on the other hand are a very mysterious group who we may or may not learn more about in Episode VIII and IX. Even if they are mentioned, a movie exploring Kylo Ren’s turn to the Dark Side has some potential, especially if it were to fill in that massive gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. Will it happen? At this point, who knows!

Rumoured candidates for their own movies have included Boba Fett, Darth Vader, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Yoda, so the Knights of Ren may be low on Lucasfilm’s list of priorities…well, unless Abrams were to return to tell that story. Don’t get your hopes up, but you never know.
