Increase in UK Box Office Takings

1

We’re in the middle of a recession but Hollywood is still proving popular with the UK audience as Variety are reporting that box office takings for the first half of the year are up 3% on the same time in 2009. They claim the increase in 3d movies being release. I guess it would be hard not to with multiple movies including Avatar, Clash of the Titans, How to Train Your Dragon, Shrek Forever After and Alice in Wonderland all being released in 3d.

The stats come from the Film Distributors’ Association here in the UK with Variety reporting:

FDA figures reveal that B.O. receipts totalled £516.7 million ($784.7 million) in the period of January to June this year, up 3% for the same period in 2009.

Top films at the U.K. B.O. so far this year are: “Avatar” ($139 million), “Alice in Wonderland” ($64.4 million), “Iron Man 2” ($30.5 million), “Sex and the City 2” ($30.4 million) and “Clash of the Titans” ($29.2 million).

Keep it up movie fans!
