Netflix has unveiled the trailer for ‘How to Get to Heaven from Belfast,’ an eight-episode dark comedy thriller that blends friendship, grief, memory and mayhem into a gloriously unhinged road trip across Ireland and beyond.
From Lisa McGee, the creator behind ‘Derry Girls,’ the series follows three women who have known each other forever and perhaps know each other a little too well. Saoirse (Roísín Gallagher) is a clever, chaotic TV writer still running on adrenaline and regret. Robyn (Sinéad Keenan) is a glamorous but tightly wound mother of three, balancing ambition with exhaustion. Dara (Caoilfhionn Dunne) is the dependable, emotionally inhibited carer who has quietly held the group together for decades.
Their lives are jolted when an unexpected email announces the death of the estranged fourth member of their childhood gang. What should be a sombre reunion quickly curdles into something far stranger. A series of eerie, unsettling events at the wake crack open old secrets, half-buried memories and uncomfortable truths, sending the trio on a darkly funny, increasingly dangerous odyssey. As the journey unfolds, the past refuses to stay buried, and each woman is forced to confront who they were, who they are, and who they might still become.
The ensemble cast is stacked with familiar faces. Alongside Gallagher, Keenan and Dunne, the series stars Tom Basden as Seb, Art Campion as Jim, Michelle Fairley as the formidable Margo, Josh Finan as Jason, Bronagh Gallagher as Booker, Darragh Hand as Liam, Ardal O’Hanlon as Seamus, Natasha O’Keeffe as Greta, and Emmett J. Scanlan as Owen.
