James-Purefoy-of-The-Following

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of James Purefoy. He’s a great actor, and the sort of chap every Englishman should aspire to be.

Earlier this year (way back in March to be more precise) – I spoke to Purefoy while he was on a press tour to promote his TV show, The Following. The interview has been under wraps since then, but finally, with the show hitting DVD next week, it’s live.

During the conversation we not only spoke about researching serial killers, and having a pint with Ted Bundy, we also discussed missing playing Mark Anthony in Rome, and how he and Kevin McKidd are too bitter about Game of Thrones “stealing their show” for us to ever see them marauding around Westeros.

Also, on a side note, I now have a Bacon Factor of two.

The Following is out on DVD and Blu-ray on Monday 2nd December, order your copy here.

  1. So Mr. Purefoy, the book that George R. R. Martin began to write in 1991 and published in 1996 stole your show? Just because your show was released in 2005 doesn’t predate the fact that GOT’s was based on a book that was published nearly 10 years prior to that. You kind of make yourself sound like a complete moron saying that. Plus Game of Thrones isn’t about to be cancelled after 2 seasons so stop being butthurt.

  2. It’s a tongue-in-cheek statement, which the actor has confirmed.

He’s not saying that GOT ripped off Rome. What he’s referring to is how HBO pulled funding from continuing the show, explaining that the series cost too much to make.

Then, a couple of years later they make GOT (which was obviously already in preproduction when Rome was cancelled) a series that is just as, if not MORE expensive than the show he was starring in! And they had committed to that funding before they realised how popular GOT would become.

He is not criticising GOT. What he’s saying is that he is unwilling to work for the same HBO production team that made Rome and now makes GOT because of the arbritrary manner in which they cancelled the show he obviously was proud of, and that the BBC was invested in. His series Rome was very popular at the time, both in TV ratings and DVD sales (HBO has conformed this too and regret cancellation after seeing the numbers.)

You are criticising someone for having integrity and passion about his work. Keep that in mind before you continue with the silly, and incorrect, rants.

  3. I hope you are referring to the authors article as this so called “rant”. Not sure what type of moron writes an article and needs some clueless know it all to explain the truth in the comment section.

  4. This moron. And yet, you still read it. I’m curious what sort of cretin fails to understand the point Purefoy was making. It’s quite clear if you watch the interview that he doesn’t think the book ripped Rome off, and that he was being jocular.

  5. Rome was an amazing show, I loved it… but seriously doesn’t compare to GoT. They should stop being bitter and jump aboard a superior show, it would only make it that much better.

  6. Game of Yawn nerds are getting their Jon Snow underoos in a bunch over a comment that is a joke. Man nerds have no sense of humor that’s why nobody takes you seriously fatties.

  7. lol. Considering you have placed multiple responses about a show you claim to hate… You are the loser dear. Grow up and move on. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it and stop trying to make your opinion mean more than it does. Which is less than zero considering the book sales and the popularity of the show.

  8. Considering you have left multiple responses about a show you claim to hate, you are the loser, dear. Grow up and move on. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. But PLEASE!! Stop trying to make your opinion mean more than it does, because based on the sales of the book and the number of fans that love GOT? You are a moron. Pick up the remote and change the channel. It’s what the rest of us do when the shows YOU like come on because we are adults and don’t cry about shit that doesn’t matter.
