Amazon Studios has released the first trailer for Nia DaCosta’s ‘HEDDA,’ a daring, contemporary take on Henrik Ibsen’s iconic play ‘Hedda Gabler.’
The film stars Tessa Thompson as the infamous anti-heroine, alongside Nina Hoss, Imogen Poots, Tom Bateman, Nicholas Pinnock, and Saffron Hocking.
Ibsen’s ‘Hedda Gabler’ has long been one of theatre’s most provocative works, with its lead character often described as “mad and bad.” DaCosta’s version brings Hedda into a bold, modern lens—recasting her inner turmoil and manipulative power games in a cinematic world that feels raw, electric, and unflinchingly contemporary.
The story unfolds over the course of one turbulent night. Hedda (Thompson) is trapped between the lingering ache of a past love and the suffocating banality of her present life. As passions resurface and tensions boil over, long-buried desires ignite into acts of manipulation and betrayal—dragging everyone around her into her orbit of destruction.
In a major coup, ‘HEDDA’ has been announced as part of the Official Competition at this year’s BFI London Film Festival, marking it as one of the most anticipated prestige titles of the season.
