At the recent Hasbro Investor day, it was announced that a new Transformers animation feature will be going into development with Boulder Media Studio – a Hasbro-owned film company.

No date for an expected release has been given but the animation feature will delve into the origin story taking us right back to the beginning of their creation and will fall firmly within the Live-action universe. It was also revealed that following the release of the first into cinemas, a new Transformers animation feature will be released every year until the foreseeable future.

The latest in the Transformers live-action franchise, Transformers: The Last Knight, in which helmer Michael Bay plans to be his last and starred Mark Wahlberg, Isabella Moner, Josh Duhamel, Anthony Hopkins, Peter Cullen, Laura Haddock, Tyrese Gibson, Stanley Tucci, John Goodman, was critically panned but grossed $583,361,313 at the worldwide box office.

The film’s synopsis read; The Last Knight shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise and redefines what it means to be a hero.  Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English Lord (Sir Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock).

Currently, a spin-off, Bumblebee, is in the works with Pitch Perfect 2’s Hailee Steinfeld already attached to star and Kubo and the Two Strings Travis Knight at the helm of a script from Unforgettable’s Christina Hodson.
