Welcome to the frickin’ Guardians of the Galaxy! Marvel has released the extended Super Bowl TV spot for the highly-anticipated sequel, and as you can see, it assembles the team in a very stylish fashion. It’s clear that James Gunn is taking everything that worked in the first instalment and somehow making it even better, and yes, there’s lots of new Baby Groot!
Along with the return of some familiar faces, this teaser also puts the spotlight on new team members Mantis, Yondu, and Nebula. The latter two appeared in the first movie but weren’t exactly on the same side as Star-Lord and company, so how that will work remains to be seen! Perhaps the biggest reveal here comes with a first look at the villainous Ayesha.
Conspicuous by his absence is Ego the Living Planet (Kurt Russell), a character we’ve known for a while now will be revealed as Peter Quill’s father. Toy versions of him have shown up here and there, but chances are Marvel is saving his big reveal for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’s next trailer (which will likely be released to coincide with Beaty and the Beast).
Starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, and Kurt Russell, the movie will be released on May 5th. Stay tuned for much more from the Super Bowl as the night wears on!
