During a Twitter Q&A with fans over the weekend, Guardians of the Galaxy director, James Gunn confirmed that there will be a third film in the saga and that it is due to be released in 2020.

With the misfit Guardians due to appear in the forthcoming Avengers: Infinity War, Gunn remains cagey in letting go of the slightest of details in case its detrimental to the plot of Infinity War and its casualties.

Talking to the Independent last year, Gunn was asked whether any of the Vol. 2’s cast would be appearing in Vol. 3. Even though he knows exactly who will be making an appearance he wouldn’t confirm whether we would see them here or in a Spin-off movie of there own.

“I would love to see those characters reappear in the future,” he said. “Where exactly they will be, whether it is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 or their own movie or someone else’s movie, we’ll have to wait and see. I think I have most of the answers now but we’ll have to completely figure it out in a little bit.”

Vol. 2 the sequel to 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy and the fifteenth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) was written and directed by James Gunn and starred an ensemble cast featuring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, Sean Gunn, Sylvester Stallone, and Kurt Russell. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the Guardians travel throughout the cosmos as they help Peter Quill learn more about his mysterious parentage.
