Warner Bros. recently hired a writing team to take on Green Lantern Corps, but now a shortlist of actors may have surfaced which indicates who the studio is hoping to cast.

For now, we’ve heard nothing about who might play John Stewart, but the names being considered for Hal Jordan makes for interesting reading. For starters, Ryan Reynolds (who starred in the 2011 Green Lantern movie) is among them, a surprise considering the fact that he clearly didn’t enjoy his time working on that and has since moved on to Deadpool.

Still, despite it being a critical and commercial disappointment, a soft reboot for Green Lantern may be no bad thing, especially given Reynolds’ popularity due to Deadpool!

Other actors – none of whom are in talks, but are all being eyed by Warner Bros. – include Tom Cruise (The Mummy), Joel McHale (Community), Bradley Cooper (Guardians of the Galaxy), Armie Hammer (The Lone Ranger), and Jake Gyllenhaal (Southpaw).

We Got This Covered meanwhile adds that James Marsden (Westworld) is also on the list.

Cruise will be closing in on 60 by the time Green Lantern Corps is released, and while he certainly doesn’t look it, it’s still hard to imagine him suiting up as Hal Jordan by that stage. We’ll just have to wait and see, but Warner Bros. is clearly far from making a final choice…
