The-Wizard-of-OzThe Wizard of Oz

1939, dirs. Victor Fleming, George Cukor

The ultimate film about trying to get home features some of cinema’s most renowned characters, travelling along one of its most famous roads. MGM spared no expense when it came to creating the vibrant, glittering canvas for Dorothy and her incomplete companions to venture across, with flying monkeys, wicked witches and egotistical leaders blocking their path. Cheerful songs, lavish exteriors and an adoring starlet at the centre represented all that was splendid in the Golden Age and a staple journey in film.
