Lionsgate has unveiled the first trailer for ‘Glenrothan,’ a brooding Highland drama steeped in family wounds, old ghosts and the slow burn of reconciliation.
Set against the rugged beauty of the Scottish Highlands, the film follows Donal (Alan Cumming), who returns home after 35 years in the United States to the family-owned whisky distillery he once fled. His departure was forged in grief and violence: his beloved mother had died, and on the very day of her funeral, Donal and his brother Sandy (Brian Cox) became locked in a brutal confrontation with their domineering father. That moment shattered the family and sent Donal into exile.
The years away allowed Donal to carve out a version of himself that his volatile upbringing never permitted. But as the trailer makes clear, time has not dulled the pain. With the future of the distillery now hanging by a thread, Donal returns with the fragile hope of repairing his relationship with Sandy and, perhaps, finding a measure of inner peace before the past claims its final due.
‘Glenrothan’ also marks a significant milestone behind the camera, serving as the directorial debut of Brian Cox. The film stars Alan Cumming, Brian Cox, Shirley Henderson and Alexandra Shipp.
